The poetic, essayistic feature film NEBELLAND begins in an empty five-room apartment in Frankfurt am Main, which is inhabited by Hannah, a 37-year-old archaeological illustrator. She falls in love with a visiting college professor from the US. Her school friend Therese and her French companion Victor, who says his job is professional "flaneur", come to visit. And then there is Alfred, who is hopelessly in love with Hannah and has the thankless task of always being there for her. Five people in one city, different ways of living and loving, different perspectives on how to suppress the past or integrate it into the present. But one sense of yearning is shared by all: "There must be more to life."
